ArtHouse Starts Fashion Design Classes in McKinney

Public Contact: ArtHouse 469-952-3911 Aspiring Fashion Designers Sharpen their Skills at Studio ArtHouse ArtHouse is pleased to announce the expansion of its popular Fashion Design class to their newest location at 4150 W. Eldorado Parkway in McKinney. The hour and a half long ongoing class for ages 13 to18 is held every Tuesday from 7:00-8:30 and costs $80 per month with a one time supply fee of $40. Students are learning how to draw the elongated fashion figure and weekly lessons focus on fabric, drawing clothing on the body, and working with gouache (a type of opaque watercolor favored by designers). Each student then creates her own collection, consisting of a mood board, fabrication board, and series of designs and flats. Fashion history and design theory are also weekly topics. The class is taught by Molly Goodall who earned a BFA in Fashion Design in 1997 from Parsons School of Design in New York and has worked for Isaac Mizrahi, Liz Claiborne, and Tonner Doll Company before moving to Texas to become a fine artist. Goodall created this course after being frustrated as a teenager growing up in a suburban area with no resources for a budding designer, “I needed a portfolio to apply to design schools, but none of my art teachers knew anything about fashion design or illustration. I would have loved a class where I could work with others who had similar interests and learned about the whole design process.” The class is especially recommended to those who are considering a career in fashion. Upcoming events include Fashion Week during Spring Break and two sessions of Fashion Camp in the summer, during which participants will experience drawing from a live fashion model and assemble mini-collections.
