D’Vine Wine is hosting an evening of Fine Wine and Fine Art on Saturday, April 1 to showcase the work of seven accomplished Texas artists. The show, held at 101 N. Kentucky Street from 7:00 to 10:00pm, has been curated by Molly Goodall of Studio ArtHouse, and is open to the public. Guests will be able to enjoy their favorite wines while viewing the diverse group of paintings and discussing them with the artists who created them.
For D’Vine Wine owner Bob Landon, the pairing of art and wine was natural. “My mother was an artist and an art teacher, so I have always had a great admiration for art and artists. Many people who enjoy fine wine also enjoy fine art, so this event will bring the two together.” The paintings will be displayed throughout the spacious winery, which boasts historic exposed brick walls and high ceilings.
Artists whose work will be represented include Terry Widener, an internationally recognized illustrator and artist and McKinney resident since 1991. Terry has illustrated over 20 children’s books, including “Lou Gehrig: The Luckiest Man” and his work has appeared in numerous publications including Sports Illustrated, The Wall Street Journal, and USA Today. A highlight of the show is sure to be Widener’s 5’ by 5’ painting of an angel playing jazz trumpet. Other works will include several of his popular sports paintings.
In bold contrast with Widener’s work will be that of Texas newcomer Anthony Giampa, who is a transplant from Southern California. Highly styled and contemporary in appearance and framing, his bold images incorporate typography and metallic foils Giampa used in his career as an Advertizing Designer and photographer. “My paintings reflect my design experience, and are very architecturally influenced. I use various vinyl and plexiglass materials to create graphic elements in many of my paintings.”
Painter and SMU graduate Jill Chapin will show her appropriately themed series of paintings “The Art of Cocktails.” In addition, Chapin accepts commissions to paint her patron’s personal collections of barware in bright and bold watercolors. She states, “As a subject matter these pieces often open a unique window into the tastes and élan of their owners.”
Other works included are monoprints by Kathleen House, pastels and acrylic paintings from Laura Darais, and Molly Goodall’s photorealistic Tijuana series. All artwork in the show will be for sale, as well as an artist’s series of commemorative wines featuring custom labels.
