Award Winning Artist and Illustrator Terry Widener to Present Workshops at Studio Arthouse
Studio ArtHouse is pleased to present two workshops in Acrylic Painting with artist and illustrator Terry Widener. The workshop for adults is Saturday, April 22 from 10:00am to 4:00pm, and a second workshop for 12-17 year olds will be held Saturday, April 29 from 9:30am to 12:30pm. They will be held at Studio Arthouse at 4150 W. Eldorado Parkway. The cost for the adult workshop is $120 and the cost of the youth workshop is $75.
In each workshop, Terry will demonstrate his acrylic painting techniques followed by a discussion of painting from concept to finished work. Each participant will then receive an assignment, from which they will develop their own concepts and sketches. After receiving feedback, students will then complete their works of art.
At the end of each class, there will be a drawing to see who can take home the demo painting Terry does at the beginning of the workshop!
Widener is living proof that an early art education can lead to a rewarding career. Born and raised outside of Tulsa, Oklahoma in 1950, Terry grew up in a small town which allowed him to roam about freely with his friends. Much of this atmosphere and his childhood experiences are evident in Terry’s paintings and book illustrations, which delight children and adults alike.
Terry’s art training began in elementary school and continued through high school and college. In combination with a lifelong interest in many sports as a participant and viewer, he attended the University of Tulsa on an athletic scholarship and received a BFA majoring in graphic design. Terry worked as a graphic designer in Tulsa until he and his wife, Leslie, an art director and stylist moved to Dallas, Texas in 1980.
Terry and Leslie moved their family and his studio to McKinney, Texas in 1991. In 1995 he illustrated his first children’s picture book, “Lou Gehrig: The Luckiest Man” written by David A. Adler. Since then Terry has illustrated over 20 books for children. His illustrations have appeared in numerous publications including Sports Illustrated, The Wall Street Journal, and USA Today. He has also done work for major corporations such as Coca-Cola, and Time, Inc. and won numerous awards for design and illustration.
Terry continues to illustrate picture books and now many of his paintings are available as limited edition giclee prints. A collection of his work is currently hanging in the gallery at Studio Arthouse, or visit www.new-work.com. Arthouse offers camps, classes and workshops for ages 3 through adult.
